Claudia Soo Hoo, Camp Otter Director
Claudia Soo Hoo grew up in Andover, MA. From an early age, Claudia was a Merrimack Valley YMCA child. She attended preschool at the Andover/North Andover YMCA, went to afterschool at the Faith Lutheran Church, participated in swim lessons at the Y, and in high school worked out in the Y's fitness center. Claudia also attended Camp Otter in the late 80's and early 90's, and she was a camper and staff member at Camp Nokomis from the early 90's through 2006.
At Nokomis, Claudia was the Senior Unit Head, Assistant Waterfront Director, and Sailing Head. She oversaw the counselors and campers ages 13 to 16. She enjoyed developing programs for campers of all age groups and taught sailing, swimming, crafts, and ropes course.
After graduating from the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science in Crime, Law, and Justice, Claudia utilized her experiences at Nokomis and took a job at the Lawrence YMCA as the Aquatics Director. In 2009 she became the Waterfront Director at Camp Otter and the following summer in 2010 took on the dual role of Assistant Director and Waterfront Director. Although the summer of 2011 will be Claudia's first summer as Camp Otter Director, camping is definitely not new to her. She looks forward to continuing the camp tradition at Otter!
Currently Claudia resides in Boston, MA with her family. She has a one year old daughter, who loves to visit camp and hopefully someday will be a camper herself. Outside of the Y, Claudia enjoys spending time with her friends and family, travelling, cooking, and playing sports.
