Consider becoming a Mentor - Help to give a kid what’s needed to succeed.
- Do you enjoy working with youth?
- Are you looking for an opportunity to help a young person succeed?
- Would you be willing to share your life experiences?
- When you were growing up, was there an adult in your life - a teacher, coach, neighbor, friend or boss - who encouraged you and showed you the ropes?
If you answered "yes" to the above questions, then you may want to learn more about becoming a mentor to a YMCA youth. By saying "yes" you have the opportunity to help a teen grow, develop, and flourish into a successful adult.
We are looking for men and women to make time in their busy schedules to make a difference in the life of a teen. Mentors will work with young people in the Merrimack Valley YMCA’s Junior and Teen Achievers Program who are eager to become the best they can be.
We have a commitment to provide effective after-school experiences that build confidence, support literacy, and develop healthy attitudes about adult and peer relationships.
Mentors have the opportunity to:
- help teens with homework
- lead discussions on various career opportunities
- help teens through the college application process
- participate in team building activities with other mentors and the teens
- and, most importantly, be a caring friend in the life of the teen
What does the YMCA promise in return?
We will offer training to all volunteers, and an orientation to the YMCA’s mission and core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Our weekly meetings will have an agenda. We value your time, and will help you to make the time you volunteer be worthwhile and productive. We will offer you the support you need to make your mentor relationship a positive experience for both you and the mentee.
