YMCA YOUTH AND GOVERNMENT STUDENTS PREPARE FOR STATE-WIDE LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE

Merrimack Valley YMCA Youth and Government students pose for a picture before heading to the Pre-Legislative Conference in Maynard, Mass., where students from around Massachusetts presented their legislative agenda and bills they will take to the State House in the spring.
Youth and Government uses the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility to teach teens in grades 9-12 how they can participate in the democratic process. Participants have opportunities to develop skills, make friends and learn how they can make a difference in their community and state.

“The motto of YMCA Youth & Government is ‘Democracy must be learned by each generation’ and we work toward that goal by teaching that every person can make a difference and that understanding and participating in government is for everyone,” said Karen T. Gately, Associate Branch Executive of the Andover/North Andover YMCA, and Youth & Government advisor.
