COMCAST'S ALYSSON GENOVESE VISITS WITH TEEN ACHIEVERS AT LAWRENCE BRANCH YMCA

Comcast Foundation supports program with $20,000 grant

Alyson Genovese of Comcast Foundation toured the Lawrence Branch of the Merrimack Valley YMCA and visited with students in the Teen Achievers Program last week. “Investing in the communities we serve is part of the Comcast culture,” said Ms. Genovese of the Comcast Foundation.  “We are excited to build on the partnership we’ve developed with the Merrimack Valley YMCA to improve the lives of children and teenagers in Lawrence.”

The Merrimack Valley YMCA received  $20,000 last summer from the Comcast Foundation to expand its Teen Achievers Program that fosters leadership development, career exploration, school assistance, community involvement and personal issue management.  Through the program, each teen receives one-on-one attention, as well as the opportunity to have a mentor relationship that is monitored and sustained.

Over the last six years, this program successfully provided academic assistance and career awareness activities for low-income, Lawrence teens.  Based on demand, the program has exploded, with the number of participants increasing from 25 to more than 350 currently served.

“We are grateful and appreciative for Comcast’s support and endorsement of our Teen Achievers Program,” said Stephen Ives, President & CEO of the Merrimack Valley YMCA.  “Thanks to Comcast, we’ll be able to continue to motivate, grow and mentor teens by transforming them into community role models.”
