Lawrence YMCA's 33rd Youth Basketball League Season Banquet Hosts Over 300
Youth Basketball League wraps up 33rd season at the Lawrence YMCA
The Lawrence Branch of the Merrimack Valley YMCA held its annual Youth Basketball League (YBL) banquets on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 4 and 5, where nearly 270 children and coaches were recognized for their achievements. In total the two banquets were attended by more than 600 children, coaches and their families. The was the 33rd season of this popular youth program.
YMCA Youth Basketball is a unique program where the development of the child is stressed, rather than competition. "YBL stresses fair play, values education, and fun. All players participate, and our goal is a growth experience for all players and volunteers involved in the program," said Doug Currier, Senior Program Director at the Lawrence Branch YMCA. Thirty five volunteer coaches organize weekly practices, teach basketball skills, and coach the weekly games.
The Lawrence YMCA YBL season included a family trip to see the Boston Celtics play the LA Clippers, Wednesday, February 6, 2008. The YBL season also included family basketball games, where YBL parents played against YBL youth teams.
Each YBL player received a trophy at the banquets. The motto of YBL is "everybody plays, everybody wins," Currier said.
