American Red Cross Community First Aid & Safety AED Essentials

Community CPR will teach you how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies for infants, children and adults. Injury prevention, recognizing heart disease, and AED Essentials will also be discussed. First Aid will teach you how to care for emergencies such as: life threatening bleeding, sudden illness and injuries. If you are a lifeguard, this is not the course you need. Upon completion, participants will receive a Red Cross Certification mailed to their home.

 

Courses at the Lawrence Branch:

A.S.H.I. - CPR for the Community & Workplace - AGES: 15 and Up
Participants will learn the skills necessary for the administration of CPR to Adults, children, and infants. You will learn how to recognize a life-threatening emergency, how to provide basic life support, and what to do in case of any airway obstruction or choking.

A.S.H.I. - CPR for the Professional Rescuer - AGES: 15 and Up
Participants will learn the skills necessary for the administration of CPR to adults, children, and infants, as well as additional training in two-rescuer CPR, modified jaw thrust, and use of pocket mask and bag-valve mask resuscitators. You will learn to recognize a life-threatening emergency, how to provide basic life support, and what to do in case of any airway obstruction or choking.

A.S.H.I. - First Aid - AGES: 15 and Up
Participants will learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of injuries and sudden illness. Crucial information about how to deal with emergencies like shock, burns, strains, strokes, and seizures is shared. First-aid certification includes training in victim assessment and the handling of basic medical emergencies and rescues.


A.S.H.I. - Automated External Defibrillation - AGES: 15 and Up
This course provides the skills and training in the recognition of unresponsive victims, review of equipment operation and maintenance, discussion of treatment, and valuable hands-on practice designed to increase skills; participant must have a valid CPR card to participate.

YMCA Lifeguard - AGES: 16 and Up
This course is designed to give participants the basic skills and knowledge needed to be lifeguards in pools, lakes, rivers, surf, and water park environments. This comprehensive course offers up-to-date information on how to guard, anticipate, and prevent problems and take action to help those in danger when necessary. CPR-Pro, First Aid, AED and Oxygen Administration certifications are included in the cost of this program.  Participants must be able to pass a prerequisite swimming test administered on the first day of class in order to remain.
