Dear YMCA Members,
For more than 139 years, the Merrimack Valley YMCA has continuously evolved to meet the changing needs of our communities and we have faced some challenges during that time. But today, our communities are going through unprecedented tests. Per Governor Baker’s announcement, we are extending our facilities closures until at least May 18, 2020. You and your family’s health and safety continue to be our number one priority as we monitor and assess the ongoing situation.
Each year, our Y helps thousands of people across the Merrimack Valley reach their full potential through a variety of inclusive programs. On behalf of our entire staff team and volunteers, we would like to take a moment and say we miss you. We are committed to keeping the membership experience alive through this crisis, and we hope that you have been able to connect with us through social media or through our virtual programs at mvymca.org/meetushere.
Although our traditional facilities are closed, I can assure you that our mission and commitment to serving the Merrimack Valley is as strong as ever. Since the COVID-19 situation began, the Y shifted its focus quickly as the immediate needs of the community changed. Recognizing the need to fill the growing hunger gap, we are committed to supplying free and healthy Grab & Go meals to over 2500 people each week. In addition, we are working with the Merrimack Valley Food Bank and generous donors to provide close to 800 bags of groceries to families from our Food Pantry every Thursday night. We also continue to safely house 73 homeless men in our Single Room Occupancy (SRO) at the Lawrence YMCA. For more information about these programs please visit the following links:
The Y is in a unique position to provide these services; but we cannot continue this critical mission without community support. If you are able to, please consider continuing your membership with us to help us continue this important work. However, we understand the impact and stress of the pandemic and if you would like to put your membership on hold please contact us at ymcainfo@mvymca.org.
Our members, volunteers, and community partners are the driving force behind our mission. Together, we will continue to move forward and provide essential programs and service to the community we all call home. Thank you for being a part of our family, and thank you for Staying With Us.
Sincerely,
Francis J. Kenneally III
